¡@ We, V-HIKERS, are an outdoor activities organization founded on November 20, 2002 by five Secondary Three students who were keen on hiking. For 4 years since foundation, we have held 24 hiking, 8 barbecuing, 4 camping, 4 indoor camping and many other activities of a large variety such as visits, celebrations, photographing, cycling, cross-country marathons, fund raising, eco-tours, fun day, travelling, hiking written assessments, academic mock examinations and English Enhancement Scheme. Our aims of holding so many activities are to encourage members a spirit of adventure and discovery, development of personal interests, social and practical skills, participation in physical recreation, increase their performance level and broaden their experience. They can also relax themselves when receiving education under pressure and maintain their friendship. Just after our foundation, we found it difficult to help members develop a sense of belongingness as it was only our first time to manage an organization. Members seemed not to be very cooperative. However, under the sensible leadership of our former chairman, Mr. Hardy C. P. Liu, 2 hiking and 2 barbecuing activities were held successfully in 2002. This started the road to our numerous activities followed by. For personal reasons, Mr. Liu resigned in March 2003. I was nominated to be the new chairman 3 days later. With the sincere help and cooperation from our executive members, Mr. Max K. F. Wong, Mr. Ben Y. M. Li and Mr. Gary M. Y. Chiu, we set our target as becoming a professional and well-known organization of outdoor activities in the near future. With our high determination, V-HIKERS was eventually certified to be a Hong Kong Travelling Team on February 11, 2005 by the Hong Kong Federation of Countryside Activities. I would like to express my special thanks to 5 of our members. Vice-President Ben Y. M. Li has been a very patient and helpful person, who always cares a lot for the organization affairs. Affairs Assistant Max K. F. Wong had been giving me a helpful hand on the organization affairs, planning and coordination of activities. Former Vice-President Steven W. H. Siu always cares a lot for the operation of V-HIKERS. He, as a professional leader, has been putting a lot of effort on discussing the pros and cons of particular arrangement in activities. Mr. Harry S. L. Tang is a very clear-minded and sensible person who always considers everything in different ways so as to make everything done in the best possible way. Being responsible and talented, he is well liked by everybody and he is currently studying in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Our female member Kaman K. M. Wong always behaves excellently, patiently and enthusiastically. She has also been giving me an especially helpful hand and spiritual support by being present in activities punctually, coordinating the relationship between members and sparing time planning for functions sensibly, effectively and systematically. In addition, she has the potential and abilities to achieve her goals because of her great enthusiasm for learning and being able to think independently. She is a youth with high aspirations and integrity who adopts a systematic approach and is always ready to share her ideas with others. As such she is capable of further achievement. Since August 2003, all of our outdoor activities, unless otherwise specified, are open to the public. Non-members who want to experience once in outdoor activities may refer closely to our activities list and apply for a place of participation. However, we reserve the right of accepting and declining any applications. For enquires, they may kindly contact us through e-mail at info@vhikers.org. In our activities, there are no limitations in sex, age and religion. We aim to provide each participant with a relaxing atmosphere. Our 19th Hiking and 2nd Indoor Camping Activities were held in July 2005. 20 participants including members and non-members had been attracted, which broke our record. Some of our members have been awarded certain qualifications such as Expeditions, Navigation and First Aid. We welcome all enquires and requests on outdoor activities especially hiking. With our 3 chief aims, Wisdom, Leading and Planning, we would like to try our best in serving the public. Hiking is a challenging and healthy activity. Don't hesitate, let's develop an interest in hiking! Members, shall we work sensibly and smartly in V-HIKERS - an ever-hiking non-profit making organization! ¡@ Nicholas S. H. Wan President January 2007 ¡@ |
